Top Stone Fire Pit Designs... Veritable Works Of Art!
The stone fire pit designs featured here, though inspired by simple camp fires, have raised the bar to become veritable works of art . . . . .
. . . . . Ranging from traditional to contemporary in style, each design is unique and distinctive, and bears the
stamp of its creator!
For example, the built-in design at right incorporates a seating area that is perched high on a mountainside overlooking a pristine waterway . . .
. . . as does the hillside design pictured below.
Though a number of manufacturers now produce "portable" designs in both
nat- ural
and
manufactured stone
(right) -- some of which can be completed on site by do-it-yourselfers -- the stone fire pit designs that follow
are custom tailored for their individual sites. In addition, they reflect the creativity of the design- ers and
stone artisans that crafted them . . . . . . as well as the tastes and preferences of the homeowners that
commissioned them.
The contemporary design pictured at right uses stones of varying heights and thicknesses that have been
posi- tioned vertically to create this unique composition.
Conversely, the unusual hand-sculpt- ed fire pit with matching "chairs" in the image that follows looks like
some- thing out of the Flintstones!

The striking design pictured below was crafted using a
dry stone
technique (without mortar). The elaborate, eye-catching stone surround cleverly con- ceals a simple portable fire
pit made of metal that can be removed for easy cleaning and simply dropped back into place.
Unlike the above-ground designs pic- tured up to this point, the stone fire pit designs at right and below (with close-up just beneath it), have been sunken in the ground. Though each design incorporates a stone seating
area, the design that follows uses a variety of contrasting stone sizes, types, and colors for added in- terest --
crushed stone for the sub- strate or base,
flagstone
for walking, and boulders for seating.
Pictured at right is a gas-fueled fire pit that can be safely operated on a wood deck.
And finally, the poolside fire pit that follows is a great example of the wide range of creative options
available today in outdoor fire spaces. Designed to give the appearance of an active volcano, it
provides a dramatic focal point -- particularly at night -- for a dazzling theatrical backdrop!
